This hour-long, behind-the-scenes walking tour explores the museum’s “vault,” an underground climate-controlled preservation center that is home to more than 100,000 artifacts. Guided by museum curators, this entertaining and educational presentation explores the artifacts, the stories they hold about Iowa’s rich history, and how the museum collects, catalogs, preserves, studies, cares for, and displays them.
This tour takes place on 10:30 a.m. every third Saturday of the month. Tour groups are limited to 20 persons and sell out fast!

The Downtown Church (DTC) is a group of young adults with a passion for the Lord. At our Saturday night services we have meaningful worship with a live band, Biblical teaching, and great fellowship. We emphasize relationship over religion.

The Des Moines Art Center Downtown is proud to present the 58th Iowa Artist exhibition, on view April 25 – August 9 at the downtown location (800 Walnut). This exhibition has become a cornerstone of Art Center programming, drawing diverse audiences from around the state. Few museums of the Des Moines Art Center’s caliber offer regional artists an opportunity to exhibit in their main galleries and we are proud to continue this tradition. Entitled Iowa Artists 2008: Drawing, the exhibition surveys the state of drawing in Iowa, featuring 26 Iowa-based artists and 72 works in a variety of media.
Hours are 11 – 4 Monday – Friday and 11 – 4 on second Saturdays, May 10, June 14, July 12, and August 9.

Come join in the CelebrAsian! 6th Annual Asian Heritage Fest."Rooted in the East. Blooming in the West" The Asian Heritage Festival aims to please every patron's pallet with activities, entertainment, food, sport tournaments, art exhibits, and many more festivities.
Scheduled Entertainment: National Headliners for 2008:
-Tatum Jones "As seen on NBC's America's Got Talent, this trio creates a fusion of R&B, Jazz, Hip-hop and Pop, producing their own unique sound!"
-Magnetic North "Respected nation-wide for their soul scorching lyrics and innovative melodies, Direct & Theresa Vu have turned heads from rap superstar NElly to renowned civil rights activist Yuri Kochiyama."
Local music acts: Gimikk, Larry Berenguel, and Jade Lea
Scheduled activites for 2008:
* Ten different villages represented each year who offered cultural handicrafts, souvenirs, food, history, and activities. Festival passport holders received stamps from each village for a pan-Asia experience.
* Sports fields featured popular Asian games. Volleyball tournament where the winning team will recieve a cash prize!
* Warrior Spirit comes alive in the Martial Arts Village, featuring thirteen schools from throughout Iowa performing in an elevated fighting ring and demonstration area.
* Cultural peformances and live music on two different stages entertained festival-goers all day. National headliners share the stage with local talent, while our Asian communities showcases traditional and contemporary music and dancing.
* The Next SensAsian talent contest showcases local talent in a competition where winner recieves $500 and performs as the opening act to our national headliners. See celebrasian.org for contest information.
* The annual Fashion Show highlighted traditional clothing alongside current trends. New for 2008 is the Next InspirAsian Fashion Designer Contest. Winner will recieve $500 and be able to showcase their designs at CelebrAsian. See celebrasian.org for contest information
* Food vendors entice festival-goers with traditional Asian dishes and contemporary Asian Fusion fare.
* Demonstrations in the Cooking and Gardening center teaches Iowans how to bring a little piece of Asia home with instruction on Asian cuisine and gardening.
